Chipanalog's New CMOS input, single-channel isolated gate drivers with optional active Miller clamp are released. This series of products is optimized for driving SiC, IGBT and GaN power tubes.

 

The CA-IS3212AN is a series of CMOS input single-channel isolated gate drivers that can provide 4A source and 5A sink peak drive current capabilities, with excellent dynamic performance and high reliability. It is suitable for driving high-power Si, SiC, IGBT and GaN power tubes in systems such as inverters, motor control or isolated switching power supplies.

 

The CA-IS322x devices are a family of dual-channel isolatedgate drivers capable of sinking 6A and sourcing 5A peakcurrents. These devices have very fast switching time,combined with short propagation delays (56ns, typ) andsmall pulse width distortion, making them ideal to drivepower MOSFET, IGBT or silicon-carbide(SiC) transistorswith up to 5MHz frequency in various inverter, isolatedpower supply or motor control applications.

 



All devices have integrated digital galvanic isolation usingChipanalog’s proprietary capacitive isolation technology.

They feature isolation for a withstand voltage rating of3.75kVRMS for 60 seconds with minimum common-modetransient immunity (CMTI) of 100V/ns. The internalfunctional isolation between driver A and driver B on thesecondary-side allows up to 1500V DC working voltage.

The CA-IS322x family of devices can be configured as duallow-side, dual high-side or half-bridge drivers withprogrammable dead-time. The enable control (EN pin forthe CA-IS3222) and disable control (DIS pin for theCA-IS3221) allow both driver A and driver B outputs to bequickly set to logic-low, turning off the external powertransistor. They also have a default-low output. The defaultis the state the output assumes when the input is eithernot powered or is open-circuit. Also, the driver outputs areset to logic-low when input-side or output-side supply is inUVLO, or the device is disabled.

 

Description

CA-IS3212AN  provides two package options: narrow body SOIC8 and wide body SOIC8. It uses SiO2 capacitor isolation technology between the control side and the drive side. The device isolation withstand voltage of the wide body SOIC8 package is as high as 5.7kVRMS (1 minute), with enhanced insulation level, supporting long-term isolation working voltage of up to 2121VPK and surge voltage of 12.8kVPK; the device isolation withstand voltage of the narrow body SOIC8 package is 3.75kVRMS (1 minute), with basic insulation level, supporting long-term isolation working voltage of 990VPK and surge voltage of 6.5kVPK. The minimum common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of CA-IS3212 is 150kV/μs, ensuring the correct transmission of signals across the isolation barrier in harsh application environments.

 

CA-IS3212 provides different functional versions for different characteristics of Si, SiC, IGBT and GaN power tubes, as shown below:

The CA-IS3212Mxx integrates 5A active Miller clamp function;

The CA-IS3212Sxx  provides OUTH and OUTL separate outputs;

The CA-IS3212Vxx  provides COM pins to support dual power supply on the driver side;

Both the control side power supply (VCC) and the driver side power supply (VDD-VEE) have built-in undervoltage monitoring functions, and provide different undervoltage lockout (UVLO) detection threshold options on the driver side. Among them, the CA-IS3212MYS driver side UVLO voltage is as low as 4V, which is specially optimized for driving GaN power tubes.
